Montgarrie Road
Alford Aberdeenshire AB33 8NA Tel: 01975 562107
Alford is a peaceful village with remarkable character just 45 minutes from Aberdeen. On the castle trail nearby Craigievar Castle looks almost Disneyesque and is practically unaltered since being built by the Forbes family in the early 17th century. In contrast, 14th century Kildrummy Castle - dismantled after the 1715 Jacobite rebellion - has been extensively restored. It has a splendid Alpine garden laid out by Japanese designers in 1904.
The village amenities include indoor swimming pool and dry ski slope. Attractions within the village include; the Transport Museum displaying various types of transport through the ages, a large collection of cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, horse drawn and steam vehicles. The Heritage Centre houses an intriguing exhibition of rural bygones which give an insight into the life of the ordinary working people of Donside and North East Scotland. During the summer the Alford Village Railway narrow gauge train runs from the Victorian station in the village through the golf course to the tree lined avenue of Haughton Country Park.
This beautiful 40-hectare woodland park on the banks of the River Don recognised as a premier salmon and brown trout river, incorporates the caravan park where fishing permits can be purchased from reception.

Fraserburgh Aberdeenshire AB43 5EU Tel: 01346 510041
Fraserburgh is the second largest town in Aberdeenshire, behind Peterhead. The town developed from its foundation in the 16th century to become the largest and one of the most fishing dependent settlements on Banff and Buchan’s northern coast. 44,000 tonnes of fish are now landed at Fraserburgh.

It has since formed a part of the attractive Scottish lighthouse museum, housed in purpose-built premises at Kinnaird Head. It is well signposted from the centre of Fraserburgh, when you have visited the museum, the nearby Fraserburgh Heritage Centre, showcasing everything from the age of sail to the haute couture of designer Bill Gibb is also well worth a look.
Situated overlooking the esplanade and on the large beach (which is included in the marine conservation society's good beach guide) of golden sands that stretch round the bay to the Waters of Philorth and its Nature Reserve.
